Vegetable Love Contest

Fall in Love with Veggies!
Now that Little Calorie's first book contest has ended, it's time for the next one, eh? I recently came across a 700-page work of beauty at my local kitchen shop. Vegetable Love is basically a vegetable encyclopedia, but it's not a boring encyclopedia. In fact, if it was a volume in a set of encyclopedias, it would be the one with the torn edges and weathered pages because the little kids always pull it out to look at that one really interesting entry (in my house, it was the B encyclopedia. We just couldn't get enough of that article on ballerinas.) But anywho... back to the vegetables.

Author Barbara Kafka presents hundreds of vegetables, arranged by region and origin. She writes a brief history, essential overall knowledge, and occasionally some trivia about each veggie, followed by a generous selection of classic and exotic recipes. And Kafka tells you just what to do when you bring your vegetables home, with tips for buying, storing, washing, preparing, and cooking. I fell head over heels for Vegetable Love, and I know you'll like it too!

To win your own copy of the book from Little Calorie, this is what you need to do: email me your favorite recipe that uses vegetables in an interesting or prominent way (include your name and shipping address). If you submit the winning recipe, I will feature your recipe for other Little Calorie readers while you cuddle up with your new prize. This contest ends June 20. Good luck!

And the winners are...

Cajun's Delight by Cheryl in Waverly, Iowa and

Tomato Basil Skewers by Emily in Madison, Wisconsin. Congratulations!

Have you ever listened to the Good Food podcast from KCRW in Los Angeles? One of the most memorable was an interview with Barbara Kafka, that changed my outlook on vegetables. She's amazing!
