Do you burn additional calories if you're cursing the snow and wind while you shovel? Or is that just a psychological benefit?

The release of extra CO2 would result in further speeding up your metabolic reactions, thus resulting in a faster burning of calories. So, yes, go ahead and curse the wind!

I'm a bit conflicted by your answer. I feel better about burning more calories (and the benefit of relieving my tensions by cursing). But am concerned about releasing more green house gasses as a result of my heavier breathing and contributing to global warming, (which has the unintended consequence of reducing the amount of snow in the future, thereby giving me less opportunity to shovel and burn calories). It is indeed a deep conundrum you have created with your post. (Sigh)

I think you have the answer right there, Tom. Just stop cursing the wind and you will have less snow to shovel. You can make up the calorie difference on an snow-free bike ride in the middle of winter. Just make sure you don't stop breathing altogether. The gases released by your decaying body would be a much bigger threat to our environment.
