Belated Mother's Day for a Beloved Mother
This last Saturday, my mom, my sister, and I had THE BEST DAY! We celebrated my incredibly awesome mom by giving her a day with her daughters. Here's a recap:
7:30 a.m. Jessie picked up Mom with a low-fat skinny vanilla latte.
7:35-8:45 Jessie and Mom drove to Cedar Rapids, catching up and laughing the whole way.
8:45 Laura greeted us with granola, strawberry, and peach yogurt parfaits.
9:15 We drove over to the Iowa City Farmers Market, catching up and laughing the whole way.
9:45-11:00 We browsed the fabulous tables of flowers, herbs, baked goods, egg rolls, vegetables, aprons, quilts, handmade cards, bowls, and vases. We all made some fabulous purchases.
11:00-11:15 We took a break at a ped-mall cafe for some iced tea and lemonade.
11:15-12:35 We filled the parking meter and browsed all the fun shops in the Iowa City ped-mall.
12:35 We drove over to Solon, Iowa.
1:00 We dined at the diamond-in-the-rough Redhead Cafe. We enjoyed asparagus bruschette, sangria, steak salads, and a buffalo burger with blue cheese. Yum!
2:00 We drove over to Marion, Iowa.
2:25-4:30 We strolled through the tents at the Marion Arts Festival, appreciating all the local talent!
4:30 We stopped at Bill's Bar for an afternoon beer.
5:00 We drove back to Laura's house in Cedar Rapids, stopping quickly at Jason & Emily's house to drop off a book and give hugs and kisses to our favorite niece and nephew.
5:45 We unloaded our purchases at Laura's house, admired them, and recapped the day.
6:00-7:15 Mom and Jessie drove back home to Waterloo. Mom entertained Jessie with excerpts from Fannie Flagg's "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven".
7:15-7:35 Mom and Jessie filled in Dad on their fun day while snacking on slices of his Morel and Roma tomato pizza.
7:35 Jessie drove home, thinking about how lucky she is to have such a GREAT MOM. I love you Mama!
