An Ice Cream Tradition

Homemade Peach Ice CreamHomemade peach ice cream on an August evening in Iowa. Sounds like a little piece of heaven, doesn't it? And it was.

Ever since my second birthday, my family has joined forces to turn the hand crank on our old-fashioned ice cream maker. I feel so lucky to have this awesome tradition associated with my birthday. Peach was the winning flavor this year. After those first delightful spoonfuls, we all decided this trumped all flavors in recent memory. We used fresh Illinois peaches. I pureed half of them and diced the rest. It made for a great, natural summertime taste. Now we're all screaming for more ice cream!
